For centuries, Yixing (pronounced “ee-shing”) Teapots have been the preferred tea brewing vessel of the Chinese and of tea drinkers worldwide. Yixing teapots are intended for individual use, producing 1- 2 servings of tea.
The purple clay (Zisha) from which these teapots are made can only be found in the Yixing region of China. The porous nature of the purple clay absorbs the flavor, smell, and color of the tea that is brewed in it. From repeated use of brewing one type of tea (such as black, green or a specific scented tea), Yixing teapots develop a seasoning, making the tea brewed from an aged teapot a treat.
Use:
*Place 1-2 teaspoons loose leaf tea leaves into the pot, then fill with hot water to cover leaves and drain.
*Refill with hot water, let the leaves steep for about 2-5 minutes or to your liking, and enjoy. Leaves usually can be steeped a few times.
Care:
*To clean, empty tea leaves and flush with hot water.
Never use soaps or cleansers, as they may be absorbed by the porous clay and interfere with the taste of your tea.
